If elected, Adair Ford Boroughs would be the first woman to represent South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District in more than half a century.

Adair, the daughter of a public school teacher, majored in mathematics at Furman University and began her career teaching math in Greenville County Schools. Later, after graduating from Stanford Law, Adair went on to work at the Department of Justice, going after corporations who committed tax fraud and launching a nonprofit to provide legal services to low-income families in South Carolina.

Her opponent, Republican Joe Wilson, is one of the most extreme members of Congress. Wilson gained notoriety for suggesting 3-year old school children should be armed, claiming Democrats “hate America,” and interrupting President Obama’s 2009 address to Congress by screaming, “YOU LIED!”
