(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Today 314 Action Fund, the nation’s only organization dedicated to recruiting, training and electing doctors and scientists endorsed Dr. Ala Stanford for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District. As a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Stanford is a Guardian of Public Health candidate. She’s answering the call to serve her community as 314 Action works to elect 100 new doctors, nurses and health care professionals to office by 2030, raising and spending over $25 million in the effort.
“Dr. Ala Stanford has dedicated her life to saving children’s lives and fighting for health equity—and now, we need her expertise in Congress,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action. “Dr. Stanford has seen firsthand how Trump’s cruel cuts to Medicaid and SNAP hurt Pennsylvania families and children and exacerbates gaps in care. Voters know they can trust Dr. Stanford to stand up and fight for them in the hospital room and in Washington. We are proud to endorse her and look forward to supporting Dr. Stanford’s campaign.”
“There’s nothing more important to me than protecting the health of Philadelphians, which is exactly why I’m running for Congress,” said Dr. Ala Stanford. “Trump is making our nation sick with his dangerous attacks on health care and cuts to crucial services. We deserve better and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work because everyone deserves access to affordable, quality care. I’m honored to be endorsed by 314 Action, an organization that is leading the charge to elect doctors to office.”
Dr. Ala Stanford was born and raised in Philadelphia. She was the first Black woman pediatric surgeon trained entirely in the U.S. She’s spent her career working to close the gaps in care and ensure everyone has access to the same, high quality care. Dr. Stanford founded the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium, working directly to deliver free testing and vaccines to her community. She also founded the Dr. Ala Stanford Center for Health Equity, dedicated to providing expert health care and improving outcomes to underserved community members. She was later appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Mid-Atlantic regional director.
314 Action is the only national organization working to recruit, train and elect Democratic scientists across all levels of government—from the Senate down to local school boards. The organization is powered by a grassroots community of over six million people supporting scientists and health care professionals who will use science and facts to address the most urgent issues facing our generation.
