(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Dr. Adam Hamawy is the Democratic nominee for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District, beating a crowded 13-way primary field. As a surgeon, Dr. Hamawy will be the first of 314 Action’s Guardians of Public Health candidates elected to Congress since launching the targeted recruitment program to elect more doctors to office. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

Dr. Hamawy has seen the realities of war first-hand, and the deadly consequences that come when people don’t have access to the medical care they need. He’s put his own life on the line to save the injured in war zones across the globe and in emergency rooms in New Jersey. Dr. Adam Hamawy is a veteran and former U.S. Army combat surgeon who saved Sen. Tammy Duckworth’s life. He was a first responder on 9/11 and has served with medical teams in combat and disaster zones like Iraq and Haiti and saved hundreds of lives. Since completing his service, Dr. Hamawy has spent the last decade building a successful medical practice in the Princeton area, while also dedicating more than 30 years volunteering to treat patients in overwhelmed hospitals, war zones, and disaster areas at home and abroad.
