Luz Rivas

Luz Rivas is an electrical engineer, current California State Assembly member, and STEM advocate who founded a non-profit, DIY (Do it Yourself) Girls, to help girls pursue careers and education in STEM. She was raised by a single working class mother who worked multiple jobs to make ends meet after immigrating to the United States. A turning point in her life happened in the 5th grade when her teacher encouraged her to learn about computers and science -- which sparked Luz's interest in STEM where she then went on to be accepted to and graduate from both MIT and Harvard University.
