Freshman Congressman Sean Casten is a biochemical engineer, scientist, and clean energy entrepreneur. In 2018, Sean became the first Democrat to flip Illinois’s 6th Congressional District in almost half a century. This year, Sean is being challenged by former Republican State Representative Jeanne Ives, a failed gubernatorial candidate and an opponent of Illinois’ decision to expand Medicaid.
Prior to joining Congress, Sean worked for and developed businesses aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and optimizing energy production practices. He has worked as a consultant for Arthur D. Little, served as the CEO and president of Turbostream Corporation, and co-founded Recycled Energy Development, LLC. Additionally, Sean served as the inaugural chairman of the Northeast Combined Heat and Power Association and as the chairman of the U.S. Combined Heat and Power Association.
