As a Senator, Robert F. Kennedy urged lawmakers to expand the Food Stamp program and today, RFK Jr. is destroying his father’s anti-poverty legacy. As funding for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) runs out on November 1st, RFK Jr. remains silent. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:
“Today, RFK Jr. is destroying his family’s legacy. In 1968, in his father’s first campaign speech as a presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy warned against the dangers of extreme hunger following a visit to starving children in Mississippi, “their bodies so crippled from hunger and their minds so destroyed…they will have no future.”
“Did the brain worm eat his empathy? Fast forward to 2025 and you’ll hear his son say SNAP is “poisoning” our children. RFK Jr. is not using his platform to advocate for the most basic necessity for children—access to food, and he is complicit in the administration’s decision to slash food assistance.
“As millions of families line up at food banks this weekend and the president continues to ignore federal court orders to distribute SNAP funding, we urge RFK Jr. to continue his family’s fight to feed America’s children, end this hunger crisis and reopen the government.”
