Today 314 Action Fund, the nation’s only organization dedicated to recruiting, training and electing doctors and scientists endorsed Elaine Luria for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Elaine Luria is a proven leader who knows how to deliver results to working families and she is ready to serve Virginia’s 2nd Congressional again,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action. “Representative Jen Kiggans has betrayed Virginians: voting to cut $1 trillion dollars from Medicaid, playing politics with health care, and advancing Trump’s anti-science agenda. It’s time to bring back real leadership to the district and there’s no one better to take on this fight than Elaine. We’re proud to endorse her and look forward to supporting her campaign.”
“Coastal Virginia families deserve to have someone who will stand up to Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress—and I’m ready to get back into office to do just that,” said Elaine Luria. “The chaos created by this administration and Jen Kiggans has increased the cost of living and jeopardized health care for families throughout the country and in Hampton Roads. As a nuclear engineer for 20 years in the Navy, it’s time to get back to passing legislation based on science and facts—not fiction and conspiracy theories. I’m proud to be endorsed by 314 Action, an organization that understands that when we elect scientists and STEM candidates to office, real change is possible.”
Elaine Luria served as a naval officer for 20 years, where she operated nuclear reactors as an engineer. She was first elected to represent Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District in 2018, where she held the longest active-duty tenure of any current member of the House Democratic Caucus. In office, Elaine worked to cut health care costs, lower everyday costs of living, and invest in the Commonwealth. She passed the largest expansion of veterans’ health care in recent history through the PACT Act. After serving for two terms, Elaine has spent the last several years working to elect Democrats to the Virginia General Assembly.
